Arriving into Stockholm
International flights arrive at Stockholm Arlanda Airport (ARN). Once you arrive, getting into the city is quick and easy.
Option 1: Arlanda Express Speed Train
Our recommended option is the Arlanda Express, a comfortable high-speed train that takes you from the airport to Stockholm Central Station in just 18 minutes. Tickets can be purchased at the airport kiosks, through the Arlanda Express app, or online. Simply follow the signs throughout the airport to find the platform. From Stockholm Central Station, most hotels are a short walk, taxi, or rideshare away.
Option 2: Taxi or Rideshare
Taxis, Uber, and Bolt are all available directly from the airport and will take you to your hotel. This is a convenient option if you’re traveling with large luggage or arriving late, though travel time and pricing can vary depending on traffic.
Recommended Stays
We recommend staying somewhere central so you can easily explore Stockholm and have convenient access to the weekend’s events. Here are a few hotels we love, but Airbnb is also a great option. If you choose an Airbnb, we recommend looking in Norrmalm, Östermalm, Södermalm, Vasastan, or Gamla Stan. Getting Around
Stockholm is an easy city to explore, with excellent public transportation and many walkable neighborhoods. Most places you’ll want to visit are accessible by metro, ferry, bike, scooter, or on foot.
Metro & Ferries (“Tunnelbana” & SL)
Stockholm’s public transportation is clean, safe, and easy to navigate. The metro (“Tunnelbana”) connects the city, and ferries are a great way to get between Stockholm’s islands while taking in views of the waterfront. You can pay with Apple Pay, Google Pay, or a contactless credit card. For directions, Google Maps and Apple Maps both work well for planning routes.
Rideshare
Uber and Bolt are both available in Stockholm and are convenient options, especially when traveling with luggage or later in the evening.
By foot
Stockholm is a very walkable city, and many neighborhoods including Gamla Stan, Södermalm, Östermalm, and Djurgården are best explored on foot.
App rental bikes & scooters
Shared bikes and electric scooters are available throughout the city and are an easy way to get around. Apps like Voi, Bolt, and Lime make it simple to find and unlock a ride.
Waxholmsbolaget
For trips into the archipelago, Waxholmsbolaget operates ferries to many of the islands just outside Stockholm. Islands like Fjäderholmarna, Vaxholm, and Grinda are easy to reach and make for a great day trip from the city.
